A Pacific language champion is appointed the new Chief Executive Officer for the Centre for Pacific Languages

Fesaitu Poetry Book 1 Aug 2023

On behalf of the Board, it is indeed a great pleasure, that I announce the appointment of Fesaitu Solomone to the position of Chief Executive Officer for the Centre for Pacific Languages (CPL).

Since joining CPL as Chair in July, the Board has been sharply focussed on finding a strategic and visionary leader; a dedicated and passionate Pacific language and cultural knowledge holder - to lead the Centre for Pacific Languages as we navigate through the next phase of our journey.  With the expert assistance of ATCL Search, the Board through its HR subcommittee was able to work through a robust recruitment process, with the preferred candidate fronting the full Board in October 2023.   I would like to say Malo ‘Aupito and Fakaaue Lahi to all those who showed interest, and that took the time to apply for this role.

Our congratulations to Fesaitu on being the successful candidate. Fesaitu has the heart and passion of a servant leader and brings extensive management experience and strategic leadership from over 20 years in corporate, commercial companies as well as Pacific and non-profit organisations.  As a fluent speaker of Faeag Rotuam, she is a passionate advocate and a champion for Rotuman language and culture in Aotearoa and globally. Furthermore, as an educator and translator for Pacific Languages, Fesaitu fully understands the fundamental need for ongoing revitalisation, retention, sustainability of Pacific languages and culture. She firmly believes that this anchors our identity as Pacific peoples here in Aotearoa and is a cornerstone of our mental health and well-being.

I would like to acknowledge Amy Tea and Melissa Keane of ATCL Search, the Centre for Pacific Languages HR Subcommittee members, and the Board for being part of this important process. And my special thanks to Ron Viviani (former CPL Chair, and Interim CPL CEO) for his excellent leadership of CPL, his careful and caring oversight and stewardship of the organisation during this transition phase.

The Centre for Pacific Languages welcomes Fesaitu and we look forward to her leadership as we face an exciting future ahead.

Maliu mai, tatou folau fa’atasi. (Welcome, we will voyage together)
